Biosketch:
Sharon White graduated from Dundee University in 1993 with a First Class BMSc (Hons) in Anatomy and subsequently obtained BDS (Hons) in 1996. After working as dentist for some years, she decided to return to academia to train as an oral pathologist and joined the Epithelial Genetics Group in 2002, funded by a prestigious Medical Research Council Clinical Research Training Fellowship, with further grant support for her work coming from DEBRA UK.

Dr White’s PhD studies are centred on functional analysis of Kindler syndrome, one of the genetic conditions whose molecular basis was recently uncovered by this group. As well as affecting the skin, Kindler syndrome is associated with periodontal disease, in keeping with her interest in oral pathology.

Sharon recently completed a 6 month sabbatical study at The Centre for Molecular Medicine, Biopolis, Singapore, where she worked with Dr Mike Jones and Professor Birgit Lane on knockout strategies for kindlin proteins.
